Testimonials

We have been patients of Mr.Burns for nearly 40 years. That in itself should be a sufficient testimonial. Our two children were brought into the caring atmosphere of regular check-ups and treatment and they both still regularly attend the surgery, at 28 and 30 years old! If you are reading this, it is probably with a view to finding a dental practice you can trust. Your first point of contact will be at reception. Forget all the horror stories about stuck-up, dismissive receptionists. This practice has the friendliest, most helpful staff you could wish to meet. You will never be given unnecessary treatment. Mr.Burns will tell you whether or not work can be delayed. But if he says something needs doing urgently, you can be sure that it does and that all procedures will be carried out with care and consummate skill. And it will last! We have some fillings which are 30 years old and a set of partial dentures that are 20 years old!! How’s that for value for money!!

One of my worst decisions was to move my family from Mr Burn’s surgery purely for financial reasons. I had the naïve belief that there was an acceptable NHS service. We should have been warned about the problems of finding a NHS dentist. Once we did find a dentist who accepted NHS patients, the difficulties of getting an appointment - never mind treatment - soon became apparent. Within 12 months the practice went private and once again we were left looking for a NHS dentist.  We did, indeed, find one, but the quality of service left much to be desired. The final straw came when, having waited nearly 2 hours for an appointment, I received a 5 minute check-up, no time for a clean. The parting comment was “You have an abscess”- no offer of treatment!

Mr Burns kindly put us back on his list and immediately commenced repairing the botched-up work. If any of my family have dental problems we can now readily obtain an appointment and be confident of quality treatment. To be honest, I knew I had made a mistake when I saw the NHS dentist, about to retire, and he said “I can see you went to Mr Burns from the quality of the dental work.   He’s an excellent dentist.

I have been a patient for over 30 years and during that time I have seen the practice evolve.  It has kept pace with the advances in general and cosmetic procedures, hygiene techniques and introduced computer technology with photographic images that enable patients to participate in the diagnosis and see the results at first hand.

Mr Burns and his staff provide a first class professional service. They are understanding and approachable. I particularly appreciate the telephone call to remind me of my appointment and the flexibility to ‘fit me in’ when problems occur.  Even though I moved to Nottingham 10 years ago, I have never thought about finding another dentist. In fact my partner who has lived in Nottingham for 18 years transferred to Mr Burns 3 years ago.

As a nervous patient I spent the last 5 years avoiding dentists, finding one excuse after another, toothache and several disintegrating teeth forced a visit. Phil Burns was recommended to me and agreed to take me as an unwilling patient. As part of my initial visit I had a thorough inspection, while Phil put me at ease took photographs and an x-ray, taking the time to explain what treatment was essential and what he wanted to do to my teeth in intimate detail. It was a good thing I was lying down.

I returned 4 days later to begin my treatment, being greeted by name by one of the several receptionists. Phil started by cleaning my teeth, plaque and scale disappeared before he started tackling the broken rear teeth and missing filling on one side of my mouth. Phil numbed a stubborn tooth before working very quickly and efficiently supported by several assistants with the right attitudes and smiles who glided around him feeding him his tools of pain and mass destruction, as necessary. His bedside manner has the years of professional expertise as he assured me I was a very good patient. I am sure he says that to all the girls! During my next visit, the following week, Phil tackled the other side of my mouth and the essential work was complete. He suggested and I agreed to two teeth being crowned, as preventative dentistry so as to avoid problems of further fractures in the future. He prepared the teeth working quickly and carefully so that no needle was necessary, took impressions of my teeth, fitted temporary crowns telling me to return a week later. My final visit, the fifth in less than one month saw him fit the final crowns, before he worked on some large old metal fillings, hiding these below new white fillings.

Phil told me that he had not been entirely happy with the first crowns delivered and had sent them back to be re-manufactured. If he had not have told me I wouldn't have known and would have accepted whatever was provided. How many other dentists would have bothered!

Phil is clearly enthusiastic about his work and made a considerable effort to put me at ease. His dental practice is well organised and operates efficiently. During one of my visits a very elderly patient specially returned with cakes for the receptionists by way of thanks and appreciation.

My next visit is scheduled for a routine check up in three months and I have been encouraged to telephone him at any time before the due date should I have any problems. Having had the treatment my fears have subsided and I will not have the same fears again.

My only complaint - Phil has urged me to stop smoking in order to prevent gum disease. To reduce the stains, while I consider my position, he has given me a mouthguard and toothpaste which will whiten my teeth. After the first application, the difference was unbelievable! I feel like a new woman, I can laugh and smile with a ring of confidence that has eluded me for years.

Sincere thanks for everything you have done, for allaying my fears, for taking the time and for making the effort. It was almost a pleasure. Now where I can go to have my car serviced with the same degree of professional care and attention?

I am a new patient and really hate the dentist but my gums were very bad and I needed four new crowns. I had always wanted pale pink gums. Last night I finished my treatment, marvellous white teeth due to britesmile and new crowns and healthy gums. My husband was very bored with me grinning all night and sending photos of my smile to the children

Philip burns has been my dentist since the nineteen seventies. During this time I have been highly satisfied with all my treatment. My latest treatment to whiten my teeth has been successful and has given me back my bright smile. Teeth whitening has certainly added to my confidence. Three generations of my family now use this dental practice as my daughter, son in law & granddaughter see Mr Hoyes.
Please do not retire yet Philip.

I came to Mr Burns practice when my teeth were in a very poor condition due to neglect by a previous NHS dentist. Mr Burns spent a great deal of time and trouble to rescue my teeth and due to his excellent treatment they are now in a clinically sound condition. I feel safe in recommending his services to anyone.

Wednesday 10th March 1976 @ 4pm - This was my first visit to a small cramped building in Cambridge Street. My first meeting with Philip Burns and it was the first visit of 3 within the next 2 to 3 weeks to sort my teeth out. They had been badly neglected after a number of years of not wishing to see a dentist, having had a number of stressful experiences, from being a child, with dentists. This of course was the first day that I was warned to mind my head as I was going down the stairs on my way out of the rickety old building.

It was not long before my wife, Janet, also made an appointment and then within a few years our, then, young sons, Paul and David. There have certainly been many changes since then and having read many of the letters that have been received regarding Philip Burns and his staff I find it difficult to say something new. The move to the new building with its new modern equipment has seen the practice develop into the highly professional outfit that we see today.
The qualities of Philip Burns and his staff are numerous. Words that come to mind are: - professional, care, quality, sound expert advice, with thorough explanations, genuine concerns regarding comfort and also the cost and ability to pay. As Mr. Burns may remember, when I first went to him I was frightened to death of dentists and I can’t say that, in all honesty, I enjoy going now, probably most people don’t but the fact that I have gone every 6 months since 1976 must speak volumes.

And now Mr. Burns if you will kindly put that drill down unstrap me from the chair and let me go home and give me a massive discount I will be very pleased. My family and I wish to thank Mr. Burns and all his staff for looking after us for all these years and hope that they will continue to do so for many years to come.
