One of the most common treatments asked for is to reduce the lines and wrinkles that appear on the forehead and around the eyes. Often these are among the very first visible signs of facial ageing.
What causes wrinkles?
To some degree wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process as the skin gets thinner and less elastic. However, over-activity of the muscles of facial expression gradually wears away the collagen in the deeper layers of the skin causing the skin to sag and deeper lines can develop – commonly the frown lines, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes.
How are they treated?
Botulinum toxin type A has been safely used by the medical profession as a muscle relaxant for many years. It has the effect of temporarily blocking nerve activity in muscles. This means that it can be used to weaken specific muscles in the face and reduce extreme expression.
With careful and precise technique, injections of Botulinium toxin type A can lessen the appearance of wrinkles and help prevent new wrinkles forming while still maintaining a natural, refreshed and ‘unfrozen’ look.
How long does the treatment last?
Wrinkle relaxation is noticeable 5-14 days after treatment and typically last 3-4 months. Repeat treatments at regular intervals are recommended to maintain results.
Wrinkle Relaxing Injections work best for smoothing ‘dynamic’ lines – those wrinkles that appear only when the muscles are active. Botulinum toxin alone cannot fully treat deep lines or wrinkles caused by the sun or natural age-related skin sag which usually require other types of treatment.
Treatment for headaches, jaw clenching and grinding.
The same product can be used to relax the jaw muscles. Over activity and tension in these muscles can lead to persistent headaches and can cause a variety of dental problems. A full dental assessment is required. Please contact us for details.
Treatment for excessive sweating
Injections of Botulinum toxin type A used in the armpits can be very effective in controlling excessive sweating. Please contact us for details.
